hp discourse: slytherin hate still exists for some reason??

in case those living in america missed it, cinemark had a wizarding world marathon during the second-ish week of september 2018 in which they had all the movies in theatres for only $5. of course i went to all the showings as i wasn’t a harry potter fan until after the movies came out.

but during the showing of deathly hallows part 2, something happened that although was expected, still had my blood BOILING.

the scene where mcgonagall tells filch to escort the slytherins to the dungeons,,,,,, the audience i was with practically gave her a standing ovation if it wasn’t for the reclinable seats. not only a couple weeks after, i stumble upon a reaction video of that same scene & guess what- the same thing happened.

this is something i absolutely hate about rowling, she wrote these books making slytherin seem like the most horrible house ever, so much so that draco is often put in lists of “the most evil characters in fiction”…..he was just a bully?? if he couldn’t even kill dumbledore how can you compare him to the likes of joffrey baratheon?

all i’m trying to say is that rowling creating this infamous reputation for the slytherin house really just sucks because people who have only seen the movies automatically think of slytherin as “evil” rather than their better qualities such as “determination” & “resourcefulness”. when you google slytherin, the first most frequently asked question is literally “is it bad to be in slytherin?” not only that, but even in the wizarding world of harry potter, slytherin merch usually has more dark adjectives on their shirts compared to the words “brave”, “wise”, and “loyal” which is a whole other discussion for another day……

needless to say, we’ve been knew of this problem, but now it really should stop.
